Governor Waititu's Sh250M Building That Got Wife Arrested

Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu purchased the Delta building along University Way in the Nairobi CBD for Sh250 million.

Waititu's wife Susan Ndung'u was arrested at the location on Wednesday alongside 15 other individuals as she supervised extensions and improvements being made to the seven-floor building.

The property was reportedly acquired from a local bank earlier this year.

Waititu reportedly offered Sh20 million more than the bank's asking price as he sought to make part of it a hotel.

Susan was charged in the Nairobi City Magistrate’s Court with occupying a building without an occupation certificate, contravening the City Physical Planning Act.

Robert Rukwaro, a developer, was accused of erecting a building without approval from the county government.

Rukwaro was reportedly allegedly planning to add an eighth floor to the building.

In a leaked phone call between Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko and Waititu on Wednesday, Sonko is heard telling the Kiambu boss to visit his office for the approvals.

Rukwaro was released on Sh100,000 bail, while Susan and the 12 construction workers were released on Sh80,000 bail.

Waititu later confirmed to the press that the building was his but refused to divulge details on how it was acquired, only stating that they were undertaking renovations.
