Former Garissa CEC Shot in the Head in Nairobi

A former Finance CEC for Garissa County was Sunday night shot and seriously wounded in an attack in Kileleshwa, Nairobi.

Police confirmed the incident, which they maintained they were investigating after Idris Aden Mukhtar was shot in the head and left for dead outside a hotel in Kileleshwa.

Reports by the police stated that a gang of three people followed Mukhtar to his car and shot him at close range in the head before escaping without stealing anything.

Mukhtar was rushed to Nairobi Hospital where he was admitted in critical condition, meanwhile, the police maintained they were yet to determine the motive of the shooting.

Detectives who visited the scene of the crime were informed that the victim had left prayers at a nearby mosque and was heading for his house when he was attacked.

Nairobi Deputy Police boss Richard Kerich stated that they were investigating the motive and those behind the incident.

“The victim is in a hospital with injuries in the head. We don’t know the motive of the incident,” Kerich stated.

The incident comes barely a week after police launched investigations into an incident where a driver to Likuyani MP Dr. Enoch Kibunguchy was shot dead in Soy area on Eldoret-Kitale highway.

Although the MP was not on board when the incident happened, reports alleged that the assailants were targeting the lawmaker.

Witnesses stated that the attack took place shortly after the MP, who was on his way to his rural home, stopped at Highway Motel for refreshments in the evening.

Police who were investigating the incident stated that the assailants opened fire at the MP’s vehicle shortly after the driver started the engine.
