Secret Activities That Occurred at Supreme Court Minutes to DCJ Philomena Mwilu's Arrest

Deputy Chief Justice Philomena Mwilu was apprehended on Tuesday afternoon and taken to DCI headquarters for questioning over corruption allegations.

In the morning leading up to her arrest, there are reports of a high profile meeting at the Supreme court.

According to the Nation, Lady Justice Mwilu was part of the members who sat for a Judicial Service Commission (JSC) meeting at 9 AM.

Also present in the meeting were Chief Justice David Maraga, representative of the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) to the commission Prof Tom Ojienda, Emily Ominde and Justice Aggrey Muchelule.

A peculiar scene which would later result in the arrest was DPP Noordin Haji's vehicle and his chase cars quietly waiting in the parking area moments before the JSC meeting commenced.

Half an hour into the meeting, Prof Ojienda was spotted rushing out of the building.

CJ Maraga left the meeting at 10:15 AM and went to his office which is situated on the first floor.

It was not clear what time DPP Haji left the Supreme court as his exit was mired in secrecy.

"He may have left through the back entrance which is reserved for Judge Maraga and his Deputy," Nation reported.

According to the Star, Mwilu left the JSC meeting accompanied by her bodyguards.

Her vehicles were then seen leaving the Supreme Court with Director of Criminal Investigations George Kinoti in tow some minutes to 2 PM.

During a press conference at NSSF buildings, DPP Haji disclosed that CJ Maraga was aware of the impending arrest.

“This afternoon, I informed Chief Justice David Maraga of my decision to grant consent for the arrest and prosecution of the Deputy Chief Justice, Lady Justice, Philomena Mbete Mwilu, on criminal charges,” he told the media.
