Melania Trump Under Fire From Americans After Tweet on Beyond Zero Campaign

First Lady Melania Trump found herself on the receiving end of Americans' wrath after a tweet she posted following her Monday meeting with her counterpart First Lady Margaret Kenyatta.

Melania came under fire for applauding the First Lady’s Beyond Zero campaign, an initiative whose main focus is mitigating health challenges facing mothers and children in Kenya.

In a tweet she posted, America's First Lady expressed her delight in hosting First Lady Margaret, adding her joy at learning about her initiative whose interest in children’s well-being she claimed matched those of the American government.

American netizens were, however, quick to remind her of how President Trump’s administration was separating children from parents for families that seek asylum by crossing the border illegally.

Dozens of families affected have the children labelled “unaccompanied minors” and sent to government or foster care with parents labelled criminals and sent to jail.

According to Vox News, at least 2700 children have been separated from their families between October 1, 2017, and May 31, 2018, with 1995 of them separated within the last six weeks towards the end of May.

Interestingly, a week after separation of families began, Melania sparked debate when she wore a jacket reading: “I REALLY DON’T CARE, DO U?” on a visit to detained immigrant children in a Texas border town.

One tweet of the criticism read: “What do they think about the babies and children separated and in cages being drugged to keep them calm? Some raped. Zero shame. All Trump facade.”

Another read: “The babies need to be with their parents period. I’m not for open borders but I am for human kindness to babies that have done nothing wrong.”
