Thomas Gitau Njogu, an assistant accountant in the Interior Ministry is among three officials being sought after by Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) over a Ksh1 billion scandal.
According to Citizen, the three came under the EACC radar after accruing massive wealth over a short period which does not commensurate with their under Ksh200,000 official salaries.
Njogu is said to take home a monthly salary of Ksh97,000 although he has managed to amass wealth amounting to Ksh115 million in a span of one year.
According to EACC, a 0.7-acre piece of land in Thome Estate valued at Ksh40 million is among the property owned by the Interior Ministry employee.
Njogu also owns two parcels of land measuring a 1/8 of an acre each in Kabete where construction of apartments was ongoing with the three properties value totalling to Ksh63 million.
The EACC is also reportedly investigating a man identified as Joseph Gikonyo who is a manager at the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) office in Eldoret.
Earning a net salary of Ksh119,000, Gikonyo could not allegedly account for Ksh615 million acquired between 1998-2016.
The KRA official is reported to have invested heavily in three prime properties at the Coast including a six-acre piece of land in Mtwapa valued at Ksh27 million.
He is also said to be behind a Ksh.125 million apartment development project on a 0.6-acre piece of land in Nyali suburb and residential houses in Shanzu worth Ksh25 million bringing the total amount of his coastal property to Ksh177 million.
He also allegedly owns 12 vacant plots scattered across Nairobi county and a three-bedroom maisonette at Greenspan Estate with his Nairobi properties valued at Ksh87 million.
The third suspect Stephen Osiro is a former head of accounting at City Hall, Nairobi.
Osiro is also a co-accused in a corruption case facing former Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero.
Charges placed against Osiro indicate that he could not account for property worth Ksh330 million acquired between 2011-2016 despite earning a monthly net salary of Ksh65,000.
However, EACC notes that Osiro has ten properties scattered across Kisumu County listed for repossession valued at Ksh158 million including six apartments, two vacant plots and two arable pieces of land.
The former City Hall employee has six properties in Nairobi up market areas of Runda, Lavington, Kileleshwa and Mbagathi Road that include two-bedroom apartments and a maisonette under construction totaling Ksh138 million.
