8 Busia MCAs Summoned Over Graft Allegations

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commissio(EACC) has summoned 8 Busia MCAs for plotting to interfere with evidence against Busia Governor Sospeter Ojaamong’.

In a letter addressed to Clerk of the Assembly and the County Secretary, EACC stated that the MCAs should appear for questioning before it on Wednesday this week.

According to the commission, the legislators are expected to assist in the investigations into allegations of corruption and forgeries in relation to the supplementary budget.

We are investigating allegations of corruption and forgeries in relation to the supplementary budget of the county. To progress the investigations, kindly facilitate the following officers to appear,” the letter read in part.

Those directed to present themselves are Philip Mudai Emaset, Tony Onyango Opondo, Josephat Wandera, Ekapolon Ajakait, Godfrey Egesa Odongo. Gabriel Okello, Kenneth Imwene Ichasi and Margaret Chale.

“Please note that they are required to appear before our investigators at Integrity Centre office in Nairobi on Wednesday 12th September 2018.”

Governor Ojaamong was arrested in July following orders by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji.

He was later taken to Milimani Anti-Corruption Court alongside 3 others to answer for the irregular acquisition of integrated solid waste management services worth Ksh8 million.

They denied charges of conspiracy to commit an economic crime, abuse of office and engaging in a project without proper planning.

The county boss was released on Ksh1 million bond and ordered to report without fail to the Malaba EACC offices every last Friday of the month.
