Lawyer Cliff Ombeta has opened up on Migori Governor Okoth Obado's relationship with the slain Rongo University student Sharon Otieno.
Speaking to KTN News on Tuesday night, Ombeta confirmed that the Governor was in a relationship with Sharon.
However, Ombeta cautioned that this should not be used to link the Governor to the student's murder.
"Obado knew Sharon, he has not denied that. The nature of the relationship is quite open, it was known that they had a relationship," Ombeta stated.
"The assumptions going on are trying to indicate that there is something from that relationship that must have caused the murder," he added.
According to the lawyer, the close relationship between Governor Obado, his PA Michael Juma Oyamo - a chief suspect and Sharon should not be used to skew the investigations in a certain way.
The lawyer indicated that the police had questioned Obado both on his relationship with the deceased and about Sharon's pregnancy.
"By shouting that the 'masters' must be held accountable, everybody is talking from a point of ignorance not evidence," he stated.
Ombeta further cautioned that the security agents handling the matters should be left to carry out their investigations without influence or coercion.
Put to task why Governor Obado had not voluntarily recorded a statement with the police or demanded justice for Sharon, Ombeta indicated that his client had been waiting for the law to take its course.
"Obado is one of the people who want this thing investigated to the end. He wants the culprits brought to book," Ombeta asserted.
