Obado to Undergo DNA Tests in Sharon Otieno's Murder Probe

Migori Governor Okoth Obado is set to undergo DNA tests as part of the investigation into Sharon Otieno’s murder.

George Kinoti, the Director of Criminal Investigations, stated that the tests are necessary to determine whether the governor was involved in the murder or not.

Detectives from the homicide section and officers from the government chemist were on Tuesday afternoon spotted with white boxes and lab coats heading to the DCI offices where Governor Obado was being grilled.

Governor Obado on Tuesday morning was taken in for questioning at the Kisumu DCI offices over the murder of the Rongo university student.

In the same day, Nation journalist Barack Oduor, who managed to escape after being abducted alongside Sharon, was also questioned by homicide detectives on the case.

Developments in the case saw Obado’s personal assistant Michael Oyamo re-arrested and taken to Nairobi where he will be arraigned at the Milimani High Court.

According to Homa Bay County Police Commander Marius Tum, Oyamo was released in accordance to the orders issued by the court.

“I want to make it clear that if the suspect is not brought before the High Court and charges levelled against him by 9 am, he is a free man,” stated Homa Bay Senior Resident Magistrate Lester Simiyu.

Oyamo was on Monday denied bail and was set to appear in court on Tuesday morning to know his fate.

The personal assistant was arrested last week and was being held at the Homa Bay police station awaiting trial.

Sharon’s murder caused an uproar by the public with leaders calling for speedy investigations and prosecution of those responsible.

Autopsy results revealed Sharon was strangled, stabbed eight times and possibly raped by her assailants.

The family of the deceased has pledged not to bury Sharon until her killers are brought to book.
