University Exposes Fraudsters in Tenders Scam

Ten individuals defrauding members of the public have been exposed by a local university for soliciting bribes so as to award tenders at the institution.

The Chuka University administration on Friday published details of some of the fraudsters claiming to be professors in a network that is exploiting gullible Kenyans.

Some of the conmen reportedly approached companies and individuals claiming to be procurement managers and professors at the institution.

They solicited bribes so as to facilitate favoritism in the awarding of tenders conning unsuspecting Kenyans.

"It has been brought to the attention of Chuka University that a number of companies and individuals have defrauded of money and goods by persons purporting to be members of the institution. The conmen have been issuing fake local purchase orders, prequalification and award letters to their victims," reads a notice by the university.

The management appealed to members of the public to exercise caution not to fall victim to the rogue 'professors' machinations.

Four individuals, Alex Mwenda Muthengi, Mr Wachira, Julius Meru and one only identified Muturu have been claiming to be working as procurement officers.

Other fraudsters posed at Architects at the university.

Two individuals, a Prof Ogal and Prof Maritim were also exposed in the tenders scam.

The contacts of the individuals were exposed by the university but when we tried to contact them, their phones could not go through.

Members of the public were warned that "the person paying a bribe is guilty as the one soliciting and receiving it and is an accomplice in the criminal activity."
