Otiende Amollo Blasts Uhuru Over False Statements

Rarieda legislator Otiende Amollo has blasted President Uhuru Kenyatta over statements made during the State of the Nation address.

Through his Twitter handle, the MP told off Uhuru for blaming the new constitution over the economic woes facing the country.

Terming the statement about the burden of the new dispensation as untrue Otiende stated: "Even Mwai Kibaki was President for over 3 years with the same Constitution".

"President Uhuru’s Memo on 16% VAT is a subterfuge and diversion," the Rarieda legislator quipped.

"We need to reject the 16% VAT, and discuss other amelioratory mechanisms later," he added.

Otiende further urged his colleagues in parliament to support the passing of the Tax Bill which Uhuru had turned down by proposing a 16% VAT tax on petroleum products.

"Let each MP stand to be counted. In this, an absent MP is essentially voting for the 8% VAT amended Bill," he indicated.

Otiende vowed that they will follow up the matter and expose how the MPs vote by calling for a Division in parliament.

During his State of the Nation address, Uhuru had stated that: "The purpose of this tax was simple. We have to pay for the new constitutional order and the public services on which Kenyans depend alike. These cost money".

"Further delay in the implementation of the tax would compromise our ability to deliver basic services to Kenyans, and to maintain the trajectory of our development," Uhuru concluded - a stance that the Rarieda legislator has differed with.
