Esther Passaris Shot Down After Disclosing Why She Skipped Parliament

Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris on Thursday received severe backlash after she posted her whereabouts on her Facebook page.

Passaris disclosed that she was out of the country on assignment thus she could not attend the Parliament sessions for the day where Members of Parliament (MPs) were scheduled to vote on the controversial VAT proposal.

The MP took the opportunity to also declare her stand on the matter, which seemed to rub her followers the wrong way.

"In the midst of all the rhetoric, I pray the cry of the People supersedes the noise and guides today's vote.

"Given that I'm out of the Country with the Health Committee, I don't have a vote but this is my stand; 0% VAT," the MP posted.

Many of those who replied to the MP's post demeaned her with comments that implied that she had absconded her duties.

Commentators questioned her over the decision to fly out of the country when there was a matter of national interest to be deliberated.

The MP's stand resounded with the uproar that was heard in Parliament all through the afternoon as members attempted to have the vote nullified.

Speaker Justin Muturi eventually declared that the proposers of the motion had won the day.

Here are the comments that were posted on the MP's post.
