Governor Okoth Obado Denied Bail Again

Migori Governor Okoth Obado will remain in prison remand as the high court ruled to disallow his bail application.

High Court Judge Jessi Lessit made the ruling on Thursday, in a packed courtroom.

Judge Lessit stated that Obado will have to remain in police custody until October 8.

In her ruling, Justice Lessit noted that the court could not determine his bail application before all the witness statements are in court.

Although a bail or a bond is a right of every accused person, the prosecution wanted him detained longer.

The prosecution had argued that if Obado was released, investigations into Sharon Otieno's murder case would be tampered with.

They further argued that Obado was a prominent and influential person in his county and the witnesses in the trial were residents or employees in the area.

The prosecution had also contended that the lives of some witnesses could be in danger besides the deceased’s family who had already reportedly received threats as well as being daunted.

Meanwhile, Governor Obado's personal assistant Caspal Ojwang Obiero who's case was also heard in the same courtroom pleaded not guilty of the murder of Sharon Otieno.

Judge Lessit directed that Obiero is remanded until October 8 when his case will be heard.
