Billionaire investment banker and former Nairobi Gubernatorial Candidate Jimnah Mbaru on Monday voiced his support for South Sudanese investment in Kenya following a controversial documentary released by investigative journalist John Allan Namu's Africa Uncensored outfit.
The documentary offered a glimpse into the luxury and protection synonymous with former military chiefs in Kampala and Nairobi accused of various crimes including Gen Paul Malong whose home was alleged to be guarded by officers from the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF).
Kenya and Uganda have been previously identified by various bodies as the top locations for money laundering by South Sudanese leaders who have stolen from public coffers.
In response to activist Boniface Mwangi, Mbaru called for increased S. Sudanese investment in Nairobi, drawing parallels with Switzerland known for its discreet banking structures.
"Sometimes I wonder how Switzerland became so rich! What policies did they pursue regarding foreign investments in their country?
"Even London for that matter! Let Sudanese invest in Nairobi," he tweeted.
Mwangi invited the public to a screening of the documentary at Pawa 254, castigating KTN for their decision not to air the show.
As Namu had revealed, the production was set to air on KTN but the station pulled the plug at the last minute despite having started promoting it.
It was, however, still released on online platforms including Youtube (Watch below).
The documentary was lined up for Sunday prime time but will now have a public screening at a Pawa 254 that includes a conversation with Namu.
KTN executives were reportedly happy with the story but wanted to edit out some parts as they sought for comment from a person adversely mentioned in the story.
Namu, however, spoke against this arguing he had sought fair comment from the individual.
Over 382,000 people have been killed in South Sudan and many more displaced over the past five years.
