KDF Soldier, University Student Arrested Over Kidnapping

DCI officers on Tuesday arrested five people involved in a kidnapping incident in Eastleigh on Monday night.

Among those arrested was a Kenya Defence Forces soldier and a university student claimed to have been part of a five-man gang that kidnapped three people in the area.

The suspects nabbed are Private Mohamed Sharmake Abdi of Kahawa Barracks, Mr. Abdikalif Mohammed Noor, Ahmed Abdullahi Abdi (driver of the vehicle), Abdi Hamid Mohamed Abdi (Student) and Salah Abdi.

"The suspects will be arraigned in court on Tuesday" read the tweet from the DCI.

According to the officers, the suspects had demanded a ransom of Ksh 5,000 for each of the hostages.

In September, two KDF soldiers were arrested in Nanyuki over claims of plotting an illegal transportation of firearms from Nairobi.

The two were apprehended transporting 750 special rounds of ammunition for AK-47 rifles in a probox from the town.

Laikipia East OCPD Kizito Mutoro explained that the two were ranked as senior privates and would be handed over to the military.

"We received information that the soldiers were boarding a Probox car to Isiolo and upon searching, we found a heavy container with the weapons. We first suspected the container had explosives," remarked Mutoro.

He further pointed out that communication was made with the KDF department to handle the matter.
