Former President Daniel Moi Meets Francis Atwoli, Eugene Wamalwa in Kabarak

Central Organization of Trade Unions (COTU) boss Francis Atwoli and Devolution Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa on Wednesday paid a courtesy call to former President Daniel Moi at his home in Kabarak.

They held discussions on various national matters and later posed for photos.

Also present in the meeting was Moi's long-serving Press Secretary Lee Njiru.

Wamalwa later revealed that Moi, who ruled the country for 24 years, sought to know the status of payments to be made to maize farmers by the National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB).

He stated that Moi also questioned him on the food security situation in the country at the moment.

"Pleased to pay a courtesy call on the 2nd President of the Republic of Kenya HE Daniel Toroitich Arap Moi, who being a farmer himself was keen to know whether we have completed paying the farmers and the food situation in the Country generally," Wamalwa tweeted.

The failure of NCPB to release payments worth Sh3.5 billion to local farmers while connected traders and individuals who supplied cheap, imported maize were paid promptly had earlier sparked a storm.

Agriculture PS Richard Lesiyampe was among those arrested over the payments made to alleged corruption cartels.

An angry President Uhuru Kenyatta condemned government officials at a recent event for allowing the situation to happen as he promised that stern action would be taken against them.

Atwoli has revealed in past interviews that he is a life member of the Kenya African National Union (KANU) which Moi led.
