Why Governor Hassan Joho Visited Retired President Daniel Moi in Kabarak

Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho on Saturday paid a courtesy call to retired President Daniel Moi at his Kabarak home in Nakuru County.

Reports of the closed-door meeting were scanty but Mombasa county official Idris Abdiraham stated that Joho was in Kabarak to get a "word of wisdom" from Mzee Moi.

According to a statement from the office of the former president, Joho who was accompanied by other leaders wished the Retired President good health.

It added that Joho, Moi and Baringo Senator Gideon Moi held an hour-long closed-door meeting and thereafter had lunch.

Joho tweeted: In the spirit of Building bridges and fostering unity, I was honored to sit down with former President H.E Daniel T. Moi at his home in Kabarak. I was fortunate to hear his wisdom on some national issues and thanked him for his time at the helm of this country."

In attendance were MPs Omar Mwinyi (Changamwe), Mishi Mboko (Likoni) and Teddy Mwambire (Ganze).

Busia Woman Representative Florence Mutua and Kanu party secretary general Nick Salat were also in attendance.

Abdiraham remarked that the Mombasa County boss was on his way to visit Samburu and Baringo counties for fundraising events this weekend.

The visit comes barely two months after Joho hosted Senator Gideon Moi in Mombasa where the two announced a unity deal ahead of 2022.

The two leaders had declared an interest in the presidency in the next General Election, stating that they will unite “in changing the people’s lives.”

Joho's visit comes at a time a section of the area MPs have openly agitated against President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga's handshake.
