Kenyans were on Wednesday disgusted by a poem State House official Dennis Itumbi penned for embattled journalist Jacque Maribe.

The poem which Itumbi shared on his social media pages described in detail what the State House official thought of Maribe in light of murder charges she is facing.

Itumbi's controversial poem was interpreted as a veiled advance toward Maribe whose fiancé, Joseph Irungu, is the prime suspect in the brutal murder of businesswoman Monica Kimani.

Introducing his poem, Itumbi wrote: "Jacque Maribe, today as you seek to get bail, I can only pen a little poem, written through a keyboard, but composed from the depth of a soul that has always connected to your heart. Creating a friendship that we both know, will never pause.

"Situations come and go, but our friendship will outlast fake headlines, rumours, false accusations, social media updates, the blog frenzy and even the unfair comments thereafter," Itumbi wrote.

He concluded the poem titled "Here My Hand" with a comparison between storms and the journalist urging her to "sweep us all with your transformation...Dear Storm, Jacqueline Wanjiru Maribe!".
