City Hall to Convert Moi Avenue Into One Way Street

City hall has announced a plan to convert Moi Avenue into a one-way street citing sluggish traffic at peak hours in the city.

Nairobi County Transport and Infrastructure executive Mohamed Dagane stated that the change is in line with the Nairobi Bus Rapid Transport (BRT) system set to be implemented.

For a more efficient and free flow of traffic, we also plan to set up an integrated system to manage traffic lights across the whole city, starting from the city centre,” continued Mr Dagane.

As part of the grand plan, City Hall also aims at hiring new traffic personnel, installing CCTV cameras in the CBD and ensuring that all illegal bus termini and stages are done away with as per a gazette notice in 2017.

These, expressed Mr Dagane, are meant to reduce Nairobi traffic immensely while enhancing security throughout the county.

Dagane further revealed that city hall officers have been put in place to ensure that the ban on boda boda operators from the CBD is enforced to boost security.

He explained that these operators are responsible for the congestion experienced in the city as well.

City Hall, in collaboration with National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA), developed the Nairobi Transport and Safety committee to oversee all security concerns in the city.

This comes moments after the European Union EU pledged to grant Nairobi County Sh5 billion to sought out traffic issues in Nairobi city.

The Nairobi BRT is aimed towards introducing 50 high capacity buses into the city and was launched by President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2015.
