President Uhuru Kenyatta scolded Central politicians who are traversing the country drumming up support for certain leaders ahead of the 2022 elections.
According to the President, elected leaders must work for the citizens before thinking that they have huge support and focusing on elections.
Speaking in Nyeri Town after meeting Mt Kenya leaders, President Kenyatta noted that some politicians think that he is a fool by keeping quiet on succession politics.
He stated that although he will not vie for the presidency, he will have a voice in 2022 politics.
While addressing the public, President Kenyatta stated in Kikuyu, “Don’t think I’m a fool by keeping silent on issues of politics; I will give my voice come 2022."
At the same time, he lashed out at leaders who are not working for their people, saying each and every leader will be elected based on delivery.
The Head of State remarked that he had met with leaders from the region but also warned them against putting their agenda of greed first and forgetting the needs and priorities of Kenyans.
He revealed that he had held a lengthy discussion with the leaders on issues affecting the region and they will be addressed soon.
Since the March 9 handshake between NASA leader Raila Odinga and President Kenyatta, two camps are reported to have emerged in the Mt Kenya region proffering different stances on the 2022 presidential race.
One side comprising mainly former lawmakers is accused of pushing for Uhuru’s comeback in 2022 as Prime Minister and Raila as President, while another faction is gravitating towards Deputy President William Ruto to assume the mantle.
Ruto’s supporters have read mischief in the Uhuru-Raila handshake, which they see as part of a wider scheme to scuttle the DP’s ascension to the top job in 2022.
Reports indicated that battle lines were already drawn between Ruto and Raila camps, but it is the President’s affirmation of his decision to exit from office in 2022 that reignited the succession battle within the region and nationally.
