A top Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) official was on Saturday found dead in his house in Eldoret.
Francis Nyabuto who served as the KRA assistant regional commissioner in the region was discovered to have died in his home under unknown circumstances.
The alarm was raised when neighbours noticed a foul smell coming from the officer's abode.
Confirming the incident, Eldoret East police boss Richard Omanga stated that the officer had passed on several days ago.
"We are conducting investigations to establish the cause of his death," Omanga told journalists.
Prior investigations revealed that he had no marks of injuries and his body had been covered with a blanket.
What was more puzzling is that the house was locked from the outside which prompted police to break through the door to retrieve the deceased.
There has been concern over crime rates in Eldoret with as recently as in October, a woman was arrested while ferrying her late husband's mutilated body parts in a sack.
Melisa Muhinda, 26, allegedly committed the crime and then hired a boda-boda rider to help her transport the mutilated body parts of her husband, Geoffrey Matenje.
A suspicious member of the public accosted the two when the discovery was made.
