Electricity distributor Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) on Monday issued a notice on prepaid token system maintenance schedule.
In a press release seen by Kenyans.co.ke, KPLC will shut down their prepaid system on Wednesday (7th November 2018) from 10pm to 6am Thursday (8th November 2018) for maintenance.
A second system shutdown will start at 10pm on Thursday (8th November 2018) and end at 6am on Friday (9th November 2018).
However, token generation will be operational between 6am and 10pm on Thursday, November, 8.
"During these two periods of shutdown, our customers on the prepaid system will not be able to vend for electricity tokens," the statement read in part.
Accordingly, the electricity distributor advised customers to purchase tokens early enough to avoid inconveniences that are bound to result from the shutdown.
KPLC recently lowered the cost of power for domestic consumers by Ksh2 and Ksh.5 for commercial consumer.
Those who spend 99 units and below per month will now be charged Ksh10 per kWh from Ksh12 per for the same amount of power.
The new rates came into effect on November 1, 2018 and are set to run until the end of the current financial year in June 30, 2019.
The slashing of the price of power followed a directive by President Uhuru Kenyatta seeking to cushion Kenyans from the rising cost of energy.
