Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja on Wednesday revealed a new plan to deal with rogue governors who fail to honour summons by the Senate.
Speaking on Radio Citizen, the legislator indicated that they would no longer tolerate governors who snob summons to appear before the House Committees.
"Magavana lazima wawajibike katika matumizi ya fedha za umma (Governors must be accountable in how they spend public funds).
"Kama senate tutahakikisha kuwa marupurupu ya kila gavana anayekataa kutokea mbele ya senate itakatwa (We will ensure that those governors who fail to show up for grilling have their allowances slashed)," he added.
Sakaja further decried the ever increasing cases on fire outbreak in Gikomba market as witnessed on Wednesday morning.
"Fire response has greatly increased but there is no sustainability of their efforts from the county government," he stated.
The Nairobi MP decried that the disaster management and response were still wanting despite a Ksh32 billion budget allocated to Governor Mike Sonko.
"Nairobi ina bilioni 32, lakini hakuna inayotengewa kwa kuzima moto na kuwafaidi walioathiriwa na moto (Out of the Ksh32 billion, nothing has been set aside to firefighting or to compensate the victims).
"There are three things that cause fire incidents at Gikomba; First, its about land dispute given that Gikomba sits on public land.
"Secondly, its lack of insurance and lastly, the traders know the kind of games played there," he concluded.
Sakaja equally opined that the government should compensate those forced from their houses or land alluding to the demolition of illegal buildings and structures.
