Sonko Gives Nairobi Gangs 7 Day Ultimatum

Governor Mike Sonko has given the gangs terrorizing Nairobi residents a seven-day ultimatum to surrender.

Sonko asked gangsters to return illegal firearms within a week, promising them protection and jobs.

He was speaking on Saturday in Matopeni area of Embakasi Central during a fundraiser for Harrison Karanja who is recuperating with seven gun shot wounds.

Karanja was wounded by unknown assailants in Kayole and is admitted at a Nairobi hospital, accruing a bill of more than Ksh 5.1million.

Sonko pledged that those who return weapons acquired illegally, within this period, will not be punished.

"All those holding firearms illegally have seven days to return them. You will get jobs and protection."

The amnesty will begin on Monday 12, November 2018.

However, the governor did not give details of how the exercise will be conducted.

He also did not reveal if the police will be involved.

Sonko also announced that the groundbreaking ceremony for the 200,000 affordable housing units will take place next week.

The project will be launched in Pangani and then old and new Ngara, Jeevanjee-Bachelors, Ngong Road Inspectorate staff quarters, Uhuru and Suna Road
