BBC's Ian Wafula Involved in Grisly Accident

BBC broadcast journalist Ian Wafula was on Tuesday involved in a grisly accident.

Taking to his social media, Wafula revealed that he was hit on the side causing his car to roll three times.

He gratefully noted that the seat belts saved him from the impact of the crash.

"I'm glad to be alive thanks to seat belts. I was hit on the side this morning - rolling three times. My life literally flashed in front of me. Eyewitnesses reckon were it not for belts," he noted.

He was rushed to the hospital where he received treatment.

In a separate Instagram post, the journalist thanked his father, who upon learning of the accident, rushed from Nakuru to check up on him.

"Celebrating my old man for driving all the way from Nakuru. I'm better now, should be discharged soon after the check-up," he posted.

Earlier in the year, the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) released a report showing that private vehicles were involved in most road accidents.

In a worrying trend, 2,626 people had so far lost their lives in road accidents in the country and 3,240 injured.

The statistics showed that the main causes of accidents identified were speeding and drunk driving with most accidents being reported in Nairobi, Kiambu and Nakuru counties.
