Meet Caroline Kibuchi, IG Boinnet's Female Pilot

Inspector General of Police Joseph Kipchirchir Boinnet on Saturday embarked on a working visit to West Pokot, Samburu and Uasin Gishu Counties.

Among the people who facilitated the tour was a female pilot - Inspector of Police Caroline Kibuchi.

Kibuchi was the Captain in-charge of the MI-17 Police Helicopter that took the Inspector General and other dignitaries.

Her compatriot Inspector Justine Ouya was the Flight Engineer during the peace-keeping mission over the weekend.

"We celebrate the role played by female Police officers in their different capacities across the service.

"We also impress upon other women in the wider society to take up opportunities available in the National Police Service whenever they arise," a statement by the police read.

Although the police and the Defence Forces were traditionally perceived as reserves for male officers, female members have over the years authoritatively stamped their position in the disciplined forces.

For instance, in July 2018, President Uhuru Kenyatta appointed Major General Fatuma Ahmed as the the new Assistant Chief of the Defence Forces in charge of personnel and logistics.

She is the first Kenyan woman soldier to attain that rank, a remarkable fete.

Again in August, President Uhuru made history as the first Kenyan Head of State to have an assistant female Aide-de-Camp (ADC) - Rachel Nduta.
