Gideon Moi Rides Boda Boda to Funeral in Murang'a County

Baringo Senator Gideon Moi on Saturday left many surprised as he made his way to a funeral in Kiharu, Murang'a County on a motorcycle commonly referred to as boda boda.

Moi was attending the burial of Kasarani MP Mercy Gakuya's Father Mzee Washington Kamaku Mwangi.

With many accustomed to seeing him in top-of-the-range SUVs, they took to social media to share their thoughts on the Senator's latest means of transport.

A section of netizens accused him of flouting traffic rules as he rode without a helmet or reflective jacket.

Some viewed it as a show of humility while others dismissed it as a PR opportunity to shake off the 'dynasty' tag he has been associated with ahead of the 2022 General Election.

Supporters of his rival Deputy President William Ruto have previously accused Moi of seeking to ride on his father's name to State House unlike Ruto who is touted as a self-made 'hustler'.

Ruto has on several occasions been pictured mingling with common folk at small restaurants and purchasing items from roadside vendors.

President Uhuru Kenyatta and DP Ruto are among leaders who had sent their condolences following the death of Mercy Gakuya's father.

Uhuru praised Mzee Mwangi as a committed civil servant who played a vital role in improving the country's transport sector.

The President further noted that Mwangi had impacted many lives positively, more so in his home county of Murang'a.

Ruto acknowledged that Mwangi had mentored many individuals during his time in public service.

"Mzee Mwangi was a dedicated public servant and hardworking professional. He used his vast experience to mentor many during a distinguished career. Rest In Peace," he wrote.
