Sonko's Unveils American Accent at Blue Economy Conference Dinner

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko went an extra mile to impress the international delegates attending the Sustainable Blue Economy Conference at KICC.

During his speech campaigning for the capital to be considered as the headquarters for the conference, Sonko was keen to enunciate his words that led him to subconsciously adopt an American accent.

The County Head described Nairobi as a modern city that boasts one of the best infrastructures in the East and Central African region.

"Today, it serves as an economic and commercial hub, and a gateway to and from many parts of the world.

"Nairobi is strategically placed and has as such played key roles in the maintenance of regional peace and the infrastructure exists for Nairobi to offer a global partnership that transcends geographical and political boundaries," he stated.

Referencing to the myriad of research centres based in the city, Sonko affirmed that Nairobi was a regional hub for innovative thinking and would play a catalyst part in creating a partnership role for the establishment of Sustainable Blue Economy Headquarters.

He added that the blue economy was an emerging concept which encourages better stewardship of our oceans, rivers, lakes and all other water bodies or rather the Blue Resources.

"Kenya is endowed with great catchment areas like Mount Kenya, Mt Elgon, the Aberdares and the Mau complex. Indeed, it enjoys favourable climate," he pledged.

His efforts to transform the city caught the attention of Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho who expressed his admiration for the beautification exercise in Nairobi.

“We can work and make our two cities great. I’m impressed with the ongoing beautification in your city,” Joho told Sonko when he paid the Governor a courtesy call at City Hall on Monday.
