Chinese construction giant China Wu Yi is set to open a Ksh5 billion supermarket in Athi River, Machakos County.
According to Business Daily, the home furnishings and building materials supermarket is set to open its doors in December.
Located in the newly built Coloho Mall, the supermarket will be managed by the firm's subsidiary Zhong Wu E-Commerce Kenya Limited.
Zhong Wu liaison officer Luis Ye Welhi indicated that they have employed 46 local artisans who have been taken through construction products’ phases during the established of the premise.
"We now have a well-trained local team that can carry out any building task as they were part of the team that built the Ksh1 billion mall.
"For big contracts, we shall send out a team but for individual walk-in clients, we shall charge a fee for the jobs," Welhi added.
The supermarket will feature finished furniture products sourced from China, building materials from global brands as well as electrical appliances.
Besides, there will be a section reserved for home appliances including television sets, fridges, fans, microwave ovens, cookers among other items.
"We have identified the first distributor in Machakos County and are in talks with several others in Nairobi who will stock our finished products," the liason officer added.
Noting that Kenya lacks an outlet for customers to buy ready-to-assemble home furniture, Welhi added the firm will invest in "do-it-yourself" products.
"This is a one-stop shop set-up whereby our sister company China Wu Yi Precast Factory will build houses that we shall proceed to fix fittings as well as furnish the same for our Kenyan customers to move in," the liaison officer at Zhong Wu remarked.
