Mombasa County Assembly Speaker Harub Ebrahim Khatri has come out accusing Social Protection PS Nelson Marwa of ruining his life.
Khatri claimed that his life was turned upside down after Marwa linked him to narcotics and illegal possession of firearms.
The allegations against Khatri were made by Marwa when he was the Coast Regional Coordinator.
According to Khatri, the accusations have caused a rift in his social life, with him losing two lovers already.
"I'm young and not married, and I have lost two lovers after they read bad things about me on the internet," he claimed when testifying before Justice Dorcas Chepkwony.
He also accused the PS of ruining his financial life since he has lost many business opportunities due to his ruined reputation.
Khatri had filed a defamation case against Marwa last year with the PS attempting to have an out of court settlement.
Marwa defended himself by arguing that as a government official, he could not be sued for remarks made in the course of his official duties.
The court of appeal, however, refused to let Marwa out of the hook declaring that the government was not liable for any defamatory remarks made by any of its employees.
The case was adjourned to January 14, 2019.
