NTV Cameraman Jesse Chenge Beaten Up By Sasuri Location Chief

An NTV journalist was attacked on Saturday morning by the local chief as he was working on a story to uncover alleged corruption at Toroso Primary School in Sasuri location, Bungoma County.

Jesse Chenge who is a cameraman at NTV stated that local administration boss was in the company of his assistant when the assault happened.

The Chief, Jackson Chebrum, hit Chenge with his fist after a failed attempt to destroy the camera.

Wakati walifika penye nilikuwa, their intention walikuwa wanataka kuvunja kamera of which nilisongesha kamera na hiyo ngumi yenye ilikuwa ipige kamera ikanipiga mimi (When they got to where I was, their intention was to destroy the camera but I moved it thus the blow that was meant for the camera hit me instead).”

The reporters explained that efforts to reach the school's administration were futile as calls to the headteacher went unanswered.

His colleagues expressed concerns about who’s instructions the chief and his assistant was working under.

They called upon the police and the media council to move with speed to investigate the incident as they had already recorded a statement.

In response, the local administrator accused the journalists of intrusion adding that they did not introduce themselves.

The story they were working on involved the alleged misappropriation of funds from the CDF to a tune of Kshs 2.5 million.

A witness alleged that the signatories from CDF were the same people who withdrew money from the school’s account.
