BBC’s Headline on Kenyan Currency Splits Netizens

A headline published by British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) touching on the newly launched Kenyan currency has caused furore and support online in equal measure.

The headline read, “Kenya money coins replace leaders with animals.

A section of netizens were however not impressed with the media house’s choice of words explaining that it had done it wrong.

Replace leaders with animals ... whoever is doing your social media must be hating Kenyan leaders,” wrote one user

We used our money to buy animals to replace our leaders. Quite disrespectful,” wrote @GodfreyAira.

Some were angered so much so that they went after the media house itself labeling it as incompetent with others blaming the bad word choice on BBC Africa’s Business Editor Larry Madowo.

BBC have some respect. (Larry Madowo) see what your employer is saying about your country,” posed Douglas Mwale.

Nice attempt at cold humor BBC,” mocked @kenreezym.

Some were however in support of the headline praising the media house of correctly depicting the situation claiming that animals are more important than most of the leaders.

In Kenya animals contribute more to GDP than citizens,” posed Songah Daniels.

Yes... Animals behave better than our leaders,“ wrote @Waiyaki_254.
