KDF Arrests Terrorists Planting Explosives in Lamu County

Members of the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) were engaged in a shootout with Al Shabaab militants who they caught trying to plant explosives at Bodhei, Lamu County.

According to The Standard, the soldiers were conducting a patrol and upon reaching Bodhei, a notorious place where Al Shabaab has attacked officers before, they decided to proceed on foot and started shooting indiscriminately.

The action started when the militants planting improvised explosive devices, detonated them in panic, thereby giving away their position.

The two terrorists retaliated and a shootout ensued after which they were overpowered and captured, but not before hurting a few soldiers.

This comes only a day after a lorry hired by KDF to carry construction materials, was badly damaged by an IED on the same road.

In November, Al Shabaab militants ambushed a police camp in Ijara, Garissa County but their efforts were thwarted, leaving multiple casualties.

In October, 24 Al Shabaab fighters were killed by a squad from KDF at Bilis Qooqani, in the southern part of Somalia.

The attack happened at around midnight when a group of militants ambushed a soldier's camp near the town.

The close quarter battle that lasted for more than 30 minutes, ended with 24 fatalities while many others escaped with wounds.

Unfortunately, three soldiers drawn from the Special Operations Regiment (SOR) sustained injuries.
