Fire Breaks Out at Lang'ata Army Barracks

A huge fire broke out at Lang'ata Army Barracks which is also known as the home of the popular Maroon Commandos.

The inferno started at the Warrant Officers and Sergeants mess on Thursday at around midnight.

No deaths were reported but a lot of property was destroyed by the fire which was prolonged by the delay from the fire department.

According to eyewitness reports, the cause of the overnight fire is yet to be established.

In a separate incident, a Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) soldier and his two sons on Tuesday drowned and died at the army barracks in Makongeni, Thika.

The bodies of KDF Sergeant James Meme Kobia and his sons were retrieved on Wednesday morning after drowning in a quarry filled with rainwater at the barracks' grounds.

Reports from Makongeni Police Ward indicate that the unfortunate incident happened at about 5 p.m on Tuesday.

On Wednesday, a fire broke out at a firefighting equipment store in Ganjoni area, Mombasa County.

It took fire engines from the County government and Kenya Navy three hours to put it off, light rains notwithstanding.

A worker who spoke to The Star on condition of anonymity stated that the firm had old wiring system that could have ignited the flames as a result of an electrical fault.
