Supreme Court Upholds Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua's Election

President of the Supreme Court Justice David Maraga on Friday announced the final ruling on whether Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua, Kwale Governor Salim Mvurya, and Ugenya MP Chris Karan were validly elected or not.

Another highly anticipated ruling was that of Nandi MP Alfred Keter, whose election was upheld.

In a solo appearance in court, Maraga readout that the Supreme Court decided to uphold Mutua's election thereby throwing out his competitor Wavinya Ndeti's petition.

His lawyer Alfred Nyamu explained that the Maraga-led panel nullified a regulation that was meant to override a statutory provision of the law.

He added that the ruling formed precedence that a returning officer will not determine who is elected, but the people will have their way.

Mutua took the opportunity to express gratitude to all his supporters and reiterated his vision to become the fifth president of Kenya.

Mutua took the battle to the top court after the Court of Appeal revoked his election.

The Supreme Court also upheld the decision to nullify Ugenya MP Chris Karan 's election and ordered IEBC to conduct fresh polls.

Kwale Governor Salim Mvurya survived an ouster after the Court declared that he was validly elected.

Marsabit Woman Rep Safia Sheikh Adan was declared validly in office too.
