CS Fred Matiang’i Declares War on Mombasa Terror Gangs

Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i, on Monday, declared war against terror gangs in Kisauni Mombasa.

Speaking during a visit in the county, the CS revealed that the state had hatched a plan to wipe out all terror gangs from the area for good.

I assure residents that we are completely prepared and have the resources and the capacity to keep the country safe.

We designed a security operation that we are implementing around this area. I will communicate when that operation is done," stated Matiang’i.

The CS further broke down the plan revealing that specific areas had been mapped out and that no terror incidents had been reported since its implementation.

"The ministry is working on such places ... you can testify that for the last four or five days you have not heard anything from Kisauni,” remarked the CS.

This came after the realization that more than 20 people from the coastal town had been murdered by the gangs.

The tough-talking CS also banned night discos explaining that they had been turned into a hotbed of drugs and illicit brew sale.

This disco matanga (night discos) is no longer a thing of celebration. It is an opportunity for thugs to engage in criminal activities. We have cases where young girls are raped and end up pregnant,” continued the CS.

He was speaking shortly after visiting the area chief, David Kahindi, who had been attacked while trying to stop one such event.

Kahindi, his assistant and three police officers sustained injuries after locals hurled stones at them during the crackdown.
