Female Elected Leaders Unveil Movement to Support Uhuru & Raila Pact

Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru flanked by other female elected leaders unveiled a movement in support of President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga's handshake.

The movement that will be known as Embrace will focus on uniting the country to combat disgruntled factions emanating from the pact made by the political duo.

They urged other leaders to embrace the handshake and stop divisive politics when campaigning for the 2022 presidential polls.

"We stand with Raila Odinga and President Uhuru Kenyatta in rejecting early campaigns that have polarized the country and opening wounds when elections are three years away. Let us focus on uniting the country, the Big 4 Agenda.

"Going forward, as women leaders, we intend to move together to all parts of the country to support, peace, unity and the war on corruption," she declared.

Donned in white and pink t-shirts, Waiguru was in the company of Woman Representatives Gladys Wanga (Homabay), Rosa Buyu (Kisumu) and Murang'a Senator Sabina Chege among others.

"We want a strong Kenya. The women of Kenya have suffered enough. Henceforth, we will be the protectors of unity in Kenya," Buyu conveyed.

Earlier on Wednesday, Jubilee Secretary General Raphael Tuju noted that the disquiet in his party was due to ethnic-based politics with some people yet to embrace Uhuru-Raila handshake.

Tuju further indicated just like the Jubilee unity agenda, the handshake that brought the ODM leader on board was equally an important part of the national cohesion debate.

"What has now become known as the handshake or building bridges initiative is infidelity with what is captured in the very first page of the Jubilee Party constitution which requires every true Jubilee member to embrace the mission and vision of a Kenya for all Kenyans.

"No Kenyan should be vilified, hated, discriminated against on account of their tribe, gender or political persuasion," he stated.
