DP Ruto's Car Gift to Archbishop Philip Anyolo

Deputy President William Ruto surprised the new head of Catholic Archdiocese of Kisumu with a luxurious car on Saturday.

The car, a Mitsubishi Pajero, was presented to Archbishop Philip Anyolo during his installation held at Uzima Grounds.

While handing over the car, which currently costs anything between Kshs 3 Million and Kshs 6 Million, Ruto revealed that it was a gift from himself and President Uhuru Kenyatta.

The archbishop also received a Toyota V8 Land Cruiser from the congregation as a show of appreciation for his long service.

Among those present at the ceremony were CSs Eugene Wamalwa and Raychelle Omamo; MPs Chris Wamalwa and Otiende Amollo; Senators Moses Kajwang' and Moses Wetangula and Bungoma Governor Wycliffe Wangamati.

Anyolo was appointed as Archbishop of Kisumu by Pope Francis in November 2018. At the time, he was serving as the head of the Homa Bay diocese.

He takes over from Archbishop Zacchaeus Okoth who had been in charge of the Kisumu Diocese since May 21, 1990.

The new archbishop made several stopovers before heading to St Theresa’s Catholic Cathedral where he was unveiled by Kisumu Vicar General father Moses Omollo.

The 62-year-old spent the night at the bishop’s residence while awaiting his installation on Saturday.

Anyolo is currently serving his second term as the Chairman of Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops (KCCB) a position he was elected to in October 2013.
