Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet has appointed new and reshuffled regional police commanders, with six women making to this list.
The announcement was made on Monday morning during a meeting for regional, county commissioners, regional and county police commanders. Jackson Tumwet will be the Head of Operations in Nairobi, with Philip Ndolo remaining the Regional Commander.
"We will have 46 commanders. There is no county commander in Nairobi because the regional commander serves that purpose, that has been the tradition," Boinnet explained.
Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i, also in attendance, stated that most promotions were based on performance and abilities, assuring Kenyans that the team chosen was solid. He also asked that young people be trained as county commissioners.
He cited that the meeting was meant to help plan and refresh objectives of 2019, be on the same page on the number of expectations from the officers, help officers know of what is expected of them, work on harmonization and coordination and on issues that are critical and have a bearing on security.
“In our rank of county commissioners, we should have more lady county commissioners as we go along and I would like to urge the deputy county commissioners in the field that we are hunting for more county commissioners,” he cited.
Matiang’i assured the media that the police force was willing to co-operate with them in order to provide information needed.
“No one working in the media in Kenya should feel frustrated or should have any problem working in the Country,” he mentioned.
Information and Communications CS, Joe Mucheru, also urged county commissioners to be in touch with the media in their regions. This would help them get informed on what happens.
Speaking during the meeting, Boinnet also expressed his delight in the number of ladies that made it to the list
