Migori Governor Okoth Obado Threatens Contractor Over Substandard Work

It was drama at Nyamaraga Health Centre after an angry Migori Governor Okoth Obado stormed the facility for an impromptu visit to inspect an ongoing construction.

The governor got irritated after discovering that the ongoing construction was in a total mess, threatening not to pay a single shilling to the contractor in charge.

Among the things he lamented over were the terribly fixed ceiling boards, loosely hanging power sockets, and the faultily installed sinks.

"The money we pay is not commensurate with what I am seeing here. Next time I will come around, I don't want to see the same things. Let him come and do a proper job,” Obado stated.

The governor also faulted the county officers on the ground for failing to supervise the construction to ensure that quality work was delivered.

"The contractor is supposed to be supervised. He should do the job defined to him by our own experts. They are supposed to ensure that we get value for our money. We should not be cheated with just a mere building," He noted.

The governor also expressed his disappointment on how county resources were squandered, arguing that if the ongoing construction was a private construction, it would be done for less money but the quality would not be compromised.

If you are building such a facility using your own money, you will spend a small amount of money but get quality work done. Here, the county is spending a lot of resources but we are getting a substandard job. Then finally people will put all the blame on me and say that I squandered their money," Obado noted.

He threatened not to pay the contractor a single penny until the necessary changes were done,

He also warned that the contractor would face disciplinary action from the county government if he did not make the necessary changes.
