President Uhuru Kenyatta, on Thursday, issued a stern warning to all Cabinet Secretaries regarding his appointment of Interior CS Fred Matiang'i as "super CS."
He put on notice all CSs who failed to comply with his executive orders, that included handing sweeping powers to Matiang'i, or were juggling their roles with politics which was against the law.
President Uhuru was speaking while chairing the first cabinet meeting since he appointed CS Matiang'i as the head of all the other CSs including chairing their committee.
“The President was very firm on the conduct of CSs in relation to politics. He told the CSs to toe the line and adhere to the Constitution or be sent packing,” a source told The Standard.
While addressing Kitengela residents on his way to Tanzania, Uhuru echoed similar sentiments revealing that he had warned the CSs against politicking since there were many other Kenyans qualified to take over their jobs.
"During today's Cabinet meeting, I reminded our Cabinet Secretaries that there are many young Kenyans who are willing and ready to work if they felt they are not up to the task.
"Those who have chosen to keep politicking instead of serving the people should be ready to give way," stated President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Deputy President William Ruto, who was also in attendance, supported the President's directive stating that it was not yet time for politicking but for delivery.
"We need to decide as Kenyans that we will live together peacefully and work together to develop our nation as well as the region. Politics alone cannot feed us, we will be fed by our hard work," he stated.
Matiang'i was appointed as the chair of the National Development Implementation and Communication Cabinet Committee tasked with supervising the delivery of all government projects and allocation of resources answering directly to the President.
