Millie Odhiambo Duped by Constituents Into Contributing for Fake Funeral

Suba North MP Millie Odhiambo on Friday disclosed how members of her constituency tricked her into contributing for a fake funeral.

Taking to social media, the outspoken lawmaker expressed concern over the lengths at which her constituents were going in order to make money.

“Increasingly, people lie about death just to get food on the table. It is very sad,” she remarked.

Odhiambo claimed that due to the high mortality rate in Suba North, several funerals usually happened in a week.

For instance, on that particular day, she disclosed that there were ten funerals and two turned out to be fake.

She claimed that she personally attended a supposed funeral to condole with the bereaved only to discover it was fake.

On another occasion, she explained that she had sent representatives to an associate's home to condole with the family who had allegedly lost the son, but was surprised to learn that it was a scam.

She stated that she did not mind offering help to the bereaved families, noting that it was part of her job.

“I often stand with my constituents in good and bad times,” she stated.

She, however, revealed that a piece of advice she was given a while back helped her overcome such challenges.

“You learn to take it easy. I was told part of leadership is that you must be conned frequently,” she commented.

In a separate incidence, in 2018, the Suba North MP refuted claims that she was involved in scam ran by serial con Wazir Mosubo Chacha, who was allegedly sleeping with several female MPs and also swindled money from both male and female MPs.
