Former Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) ICT Manager Chris Msando has been honored by the International Centre for Parliamentary Studies (ICPS).
Msando was presented with a posthumous award for his integrity at the 17th International Electoral Affairs Awards held in Ghana on January 30.
The former IEBC Head of ICT was brutally tortured and murdered nine days to the August 8, 2017 elections after he allegedly refused to give out classified information.
It is reported that Msando was dedicated to ensuring that the elections would be free and fair and that the peoples' will prevailed.
Taking to social media, former IEBC Commissioner Roselyne Akombe congratulated his late colleague stating that a prophet is never honoured at his hometown. She also thanked Ghana for keeping Msando’s legacy alive.
IEBC boss Wafula Chebukati was also honoured with an Electoral Conflict Management award.
The awards ceremony is a celebration of all the inspiration work carried out by a diverse range of electoral stakeholders from around the world.
It seeks to acknowledge their significant contribution to the democratic process beyond the community of electoral professionals, practitioners, and experts.
Other electoral bodies who received awards include, Romania, Palestine, Mexico, and Afghanistan
Elections Ontario from east-central Canada received the Electoral Commission of the Year award.
