MPs Vow to Bar OT Morpho from Government Tenders

Members of the National Assembly, on Monday, vowed to block French firm OT Morpho from contesting future government tenders after snubbing meetings.

The Public Accounts Committee, chaired by Ugunja MP Opiyo Wandayi, had summoned the firm's top directors but they failed to show up.

The controversial firm, which had reportedly won another tender in the upcoming census process, also risks, as a result of the snub, losing the tender valued at Ksh3 Billion.

“We have enough teeth and that will be demonstrated when writing our report. They will have to appear on February 18. If they fail, we’ll surely pronounce ourselves on them," stated Mr Wandayi.

The Committee, therefore, issued final summons to the controversial company's directors to appear before it next week Monday without which they will consider blacklisting the firm from future dealings with any state offices.

The firm, which rebranded to IDEMIA following a merger of Oberthur Technologies and Safran Identity & Security (Morpho), was one of the bidders for the digital registration system that will create a national population register.

Other companies that applied for the multi-billion tender included Coppernic and Credence ID.

In 2017, The firm hit headlines after IEBC controversially awarded it a Ksh6 Billion tender to supply voter identification and results transmission kits (KIEMS) for the General Election.

Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, who was a presidential contender in the polls, first raised alarm over the firm linking it to an alleged rigging.

The commission’s former Chief Executive Officer Ezra Chiloba was then accused of single-handedly commissioning for the firm’s services.

The Supreme Court, however, termed the accusations lodged against the firm as null and void.
