EACC Raids Samburu Governor's Home

Anti-corruption detectives on Wednesday raided and searched three homes of Samburu Governor Moses Kasaine in Samburu and Nairobi.

Sources indicate that the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) sleuths were after files related to fishy expenditure of Ksh2 billion.

The detectives arrived at the two homes in Karen using a 14-seater matatu in an attempt to conceal their identity.

They were later joined by other teams who arrived in SUVs with the Nairobi raid being conducted concurrently with the one in Samburu.

The Governor was reportedly at one of the Karen homes during the time of the raid with reports indicating that the two residents, which are built on adjacent plots, are connected from inside through a gate.

The detectives reportedly also raided the residences and offices of county chief officers implicated in the alleged scandal.

Governor Kasaine has in the past been indicted by the Kenya Public Accounts and Investment Committee (PAIC) over the misappropriation of Ksh75 million in unsurrendered tax.

Besides, the Samburu County boss has also been in trouble for making illegal payment to the Council of Governors (COG).

The EACC is also reportedly set to go after contractors and directors of firms linked to the Ksh2 billion scandal.

Update; 12:00pm

The EACC released a statement over the raid indicating that previous investigations in the matter have revealed great misappropriation of the county's resources.
