Governor Sang Demands Answers from Interpol Over Kshs1.3B Heroin

Nandi Governor Stephen Sang has written to Interpol and the State seeking details of ownership of heroin destroyed in 2014 at the port of Mombasa.

Sang’s advocate, Dunstan Omari, filed a letter on Thursday seeking information that may help him file a defamation suit against Hassan Joho, Mombasa Governor.

The letter addressed Interior CS Fred Matiang’i, Defence CS Raychelle Omamo and the Inspector General of Police, Joseph Boinnet.

“On or about 29th August 2014, the state under the supervision of the President, various Cabinet Secretaries, the Inspector General of Police blew up a luxury hatch referred to as Amin Darya or MV Alnoor,” read the letter.

The ship contained 370.8 kilograms of heroin valued at Ksh1.3 billion.

Other entities copied in the letter are; The Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) George Kinoti, Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission(EACC), Office of the President and the Registrar of the Kenyan judiciary.

Omari also stated the letter may help in identifying the drug traffickers that are destroying many lives in Mombasa.

This comes a few days after Interpol cleared Joho over allegations that he was wanted for trading drugs within the country and beyond.

Joho had also written to the international security agency seeking to know if he was being sought for drug trafficking.

Early this month, the Nandi Governor, Kapsaret MP Oscar Sudi, Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung’wa and Kimili MP Didmus Barasa claimed Joho was involved in drug trade.
