Flight Attendants Injured in Ongoing JKIA Strike

Flight attendants were injured as chaos erupted during the strike staged by Kenya Airports Authority workers.

The chaos came about after the GSU and Anti-Riot Police officers were deployed to the scene of the strike resulting into a commotion.

Additional reports indicated that six staff members were injured in the chaos and were taken to hospital for medical treatment.

One of the injured, a lady who was dressed in red uniform, was carried away from the site with a seemingly injured leg.

Kenya Aviation Workers Union (KAWU) secretary-general Moses Ndiema was also arrested after leading the strike of workers.

Hundreds of passengers were stranded countrywide as a result of the strike.

Kisumu and Mombasa Airports were also affected.

As a result of the strike, no plane could take off or land at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) as fire engines on the airside had been withdrawn.

Taking to social media, KAA asked the passengers to stay put as they were working to return normalcy to the airports' operations.

"We are currently taking measures to ensure normalcy returns as soon as possible and that service interruptions are minimized.

"We advise all passengers using JKIA to get in touch with their respective airlines to confirm their travel arrangements," they advised.

Responding to the strike, Labour CS Ukur Yattani revealed that the strike was illegal since the airline's management went to court and was given a temporary injunction.
