Police Officer Captured By CCTV Breaking Into Building Charged

A police officer who was caught on CCTV  camera breaking into a building was charged in a Maralal Court on Monday.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), a CCTV footage showed the police officer, Shadrack Lagat, breaking into a building and committing a felony.

Lagat, who was positively identified through the police identification parade, committed the offence in December 2018.

"A police officer captured on CCTV camera and positively identified through identification parade was today charged before a Maralal Court for the offence of breaking into a building & committing a felony.

"Constable Shadrack Lagat committed the offence on the night of 10th December 2018," stated DCI.

On March 9, 2019, two other police officers were taken into police custody after they were recorded stealing confiscated heroin.

The two, Corporal Alloys Onyango and Constable Arbanus Mutunga, reportedly made away with more than 25Kgs of heroin.

The drugs in question had been seized from traffickers and kept at a local police station. 

A proxy identified as Peter Odogo Okoth was used by the two officers to lay a trap on two other drug traffickers and owners of the narcotics.

The two were nabbed by detectives from the Special Crimes Unit.
