An Administration Police (AP) officer who killed his lover on Thursday, March 14, has been arrested.
Citizen TV reports that Patrick Nyapara was nabbed at the Kenya-Uganda border on Saturday afternoon.
Western Regional Commander Rashid Yakub revealed that the officer was caught while trying to sneak into Uganda.
He was detained at Kakamega Police Station as investigations into the incident continue.
Nyapara, who was based at Navakholo Police Station, had been on the run after killing his 24-year-old lover Christine Maonga at their home in Duka Moja.
The couple reportedly quarreled before the AP officer shot the woman three times. The Ceska pistol that he had used to commit the crime was recovered.
However, Nyapara was not arrested immediately as he went into hiding after the incident.
Maonga was a teacher at Navakholo Secondary School. Students from the school engaged police in running battles to protest the killing.
Tension was also high at Navakholo market after the news of the teacher's killing broke out.
Maonga's body was taken to the Kakamega County Referral Hospital mortuary.
