DCI Raid EX-CS Rashid Echesa's House, Recover Gun & Bullets

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, on Sunday night, reportedly raided a Karen house belonging to former Sports Cabinet Secretary Rashid Echesa.

According to a report by The Star, the officers took a Beretta pistol owned by the politician and recovered 15 bullets during the operation.

Quoting a police report at Kilimani Station, OB68/17/3/2009, the newspaper further reported that the operation was carried out by DCI officers from the Special Crime Prevention Unit.

At first, Echesa denied that his house had been raided before calling back later and acknowledging that he had met with police officers who questioned him about the licensing of his gun.

“What I know is that I met police officers who wanted to know whether my gun is licensed and I produced all documentation," he told the newspaper.

He further denied that the gun was taken away from him after the officers assessed his paperwork.

At the beginning of this month, Echesa was unceremoniously ejected from heading the sports Cabinet Secretary job by President Uhuru Kenyatta.

He was soon after replaced by the then Education Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed. No reason leading to his sacking was given.

In a past interview, the politician disputed claims that he was linked to a fake money syndicate whose Ksh32 Billion fake currency was recovered in a house in Ruiru, Nairobi.

“I have kept on pleading with the President to clear the air and explain why he fired me. I believe I was sacked because of my unflinching support for Deputy President William Ruto. I am a victim of the 2022 succession politics," he told Sunday Nation sometimes back.
