Babu Owino's Promise to Prophet Owuor at Crusade

Embakasi East MP Babu Owino made a pledge to controversial Prophet David Owuor on Sunday during a crusade at Central Park, Nairobi.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, the MP stated that he stood by his promise to lead the fight against the proposed bill to regulate churches.

"I wish to assure all worshippers that I will be on the front line in defending the faith and ensuring the political class respects freedom of worship," the lawmaker pledged.

"We will not allow the devil’s hand to find its way into our society through politicians," he added.

Babu disclosed that he was shocked when he learned that some people were planning to tax churches and vet religious leaders.

His opinion was that, what God has given, truly no man could take away. Not even Parliament.

Kangema MP Muturi Kigano, who is behind the proposed bill, strongly believes the law will curtail the growing trend of men of God swindling innocent Kenyans through church activities.

The legislator claimed that some of the mega-churches in the country had become nothing but dens of corruption that have no agenda of serving the true God their followers intend to worship.

“They no longer preach salvation and ways of God but are now preoccupied with what is called prosperity gospel, that urges their followers to get rich from the grinding poverty they are in. Members of the flock are told the way out is to tithe generously and plant the seed.

"The resultant effect is that many poor Kenyans become poorer even as the huge entities continue to thrive on the platform of tax evasion," he protested.
